Pivot is a structured, supportive aftercare community in Tucson, Arizona, designed specifically for young men navigating the early stages of addiction recovery and independent living. Formerly known as In Balance Transitional Living, we’ve guided hundreds of young men from uncertainty to empowerment—and now, as Pivot, we remain committed to helping each resident step confidently into the next chapter of their life.

Why Pivot for Young Men in Transition?

The most critical phase of recovery from mental health crises or periods of substance abuse begins after primary treatment ends. We provide a safe, vibrant, and support-driven environment across three, age-specific campuses, that helps young men practice the skills they need to live independently, with a temporary safety net.

Our transitional living program for young adults offers the perfect balance of self-reliance and structure—supporting each resident’s pursuit of sobriety, education, career goals, and personal growth.

12-Step Immersion & Peer Connection

We’re a 12-step-based program that emphasizes community, service, and spiritual growth. Residents attend “90-in-90” meetings, work with sponsors, take service positions, and participate in both local and national recovery events. Brotherhood and a shared reliance on one another are core to the Pivot experience.

Sophisticated Clinical Support

With a team of full-time licensed therapists, a clinical supervisor, and a director of clinical services, Pivot offers ongoing individual, group, and family therapy. Our team addresses both substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, ensuring residents receive comprehensive, trauma-informed care.

Life Skills & Independent Living

We prepare young men for the real world by teaching essential life skills like money management, job readiness, academic planning, cooking, time management, and more. Our goal is to build confident, capable young adults who can live independently and thrive.

Education, Employment, and Vocational Growth

Whether finishing high school, attending University of Arizona or Pima Community College, working part-time, or pursuing an internship, our team helps each resident craft a personalized roadmap for their future.

Sober Fun & Social Engagement

Recovery should be attractive. Our residents experience weekly recreation, group outings, weekend adventures, and travel opportunities. From basketball and game nights to snowboarding in Sedona, we show that sober life can be exciting, fulfilling, and full of real joy.

The Transitional Campuses:

Separated into two age-specific campuses, the Adolescent Transitional Campus sits on 3 acres and is backed by the Santa Catalina Mountains of the Coronado National Fores.

The Transitional Living Campus is a private, courtyard-style residential complex where young men take 1-2 college classes, work, or volunteer.

The Collegiate Recovery Campus:

A large estate built by renowned architect Josias Joesler, this “fraternity-style” house is home to residents of college age or older. With a chef’s kitchen, entertainment spaces, and quiet study areas, it’s ideal for students pursuing long-term academic success while staying sober.

Tucson is more than a backdrop; it’s an integral part of the Pivot story. With year-round sunshine, a dynamic college town atmosphere, low cost of living, and access to nature, music, art, and culture, Tucson provides the perfect environment for young adults in recovery.
